Criteria for determining disability: Unable to walk 200 feet without stopping to rest; unable to walk without the use of a brace, cane, crutch, another person, prosthetic device, etc.; restricted by lung disease; use of portable oxygen needed; restricted by a cardiac condition; restricted by arthritic, neurological, orthopedic condition; deaf and hard-of-hearing persons.
Placard design: Removable windshield placard displaying the International Symbol of Access, the date of expiration, a seal of the Secretary of State and the permit number. The placard must be blue with the white print.
Parking space provisions: Each space will be marked with a sign adjacent to and visible from each handicapped parking space displaying the International Symbol of Access. Complies with Maine Human Rights Act.
Enforcement/Penalties: Any person that parks in the parking space designated for persons with disabilities when not entitled to it - a forfeiture of not less than $100 may be imposed; Any person that misuses or abuses the placard issued to another person - a traffic infraction punishable with a fine of $100 plus the placard will be suspended.
