Massachusetts

  1. Criteria for determining disability: Blind; loss or a permanent loss of the use of one or both feet or one or both hands; other standards of disability and handicap as determined by the medical advisory board.

  2. Placard design: Special parking identification plate bearing the International Symbol of Access of size and design as determined by the Motor Vehicle registrar.

  3. Parking space provisions: Each space will be marked by the use of above grade signs with the white lettering against blue background bearing the words: "Handicapped parking: Special plate required. Unauthorized vehicles may be removed at owner's expense". Each space will be 12 feet wide or two 8 foot wide areas with 4 feet of cross hatch between them. 

  4. Enforcement/Penalties: Any person that parks in the parking space designated for persons with disabilities when not entitled to it - a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $300, as well as the vehicle may be removed; Any person that misuses or abuses the placard issued to another - a fine of $100 and such a placard will be revoked.
